Hospitality, Tourism & Trades Industry Partners

Working in close collaboration with a Council of Industry Partners to devise courses that most closely match industry needs, the Academy has created a range of courses that prepares graduates for the tourism and hospitality ‘hot spots’ of the state and the world.

Recruiting the very best people that the various hospitality industries have to offer, the Academy provides training that closely mirrors the ‘real world’ environment that students will experience as they progress towards their qualifications. On campus, much of this training is undertaken at the state of the art learning facilities of the Pavilion Restaurant, staffed primarily by Academy trainees studying cookery, food and beverage attendance, management and reservations.

Master classes with industry ‘stars’ are conducted regularly, and apprentices and trainees are assisted to gain work experience and employment in the best restaurants, cafes, hotels and other tourism businesses.

Tourism students, too, can expect to be working on real jobs and be confronted by the constraints, frustrations and rewards that a Tourism employee might experience.
The Academy’s close connection with industry means that the nationally accredited qualifications attained by trainees are highly portable, with graduates being readily accepted into employment internationally.

The Academy is also active in creating innovative new pathways for students to enter the hospitality and tourism workforce. Initiatives include organising an Indigenous chefs’ program, the creation of a range of training proposals for specific tourism businesses, and the reduction of the standard four year apprenticeship to three years without any compromise in the course content or quality.
