Information and Communication Technology

Information & Communication Technology (ICT) professionals (encompassing both IT and Digital Media) are among the highest paid group on average, in Western Australia.  Every industry in the world now relies on IT so a career in this field is bursting with interesting, diverse and stimulating opportunities.

Studying IT is a relevant and almost essential practice in today’s world.  Those new to computing or needing to up-skill to the latest hardware and software applications will find IT studies particularly useful. IT students can specialise in areas such as networking, programming (business and games), web development, and multimedia (art and animation).

Graduates are in high demand and can take their pick of the most dynamic opportunities on offer both here and overseas. World travellers take note that IT skills are both a transferrable and marketable commodity.

Another burgeoning area is Digital Media.  Digital Media is a high growth, dynamic and exciting industry. This growth is being fuelled by the proliferation of more and more devices that are multimedia ready. In today’s world, mobile phones, personal digital assistants (PDAs), and game consoles (Xbox, Sony Playstation, Nintendo Wii) are used extensively for internet access and entertainment. As a result the role of the traditional multimedia developer is changing fast.

Demand is still strong for the development of content using graphics, animation, sound and video on traditional platforms such as the PC, but the industry is urgently seeking Multimedia graduates skilled in developing and distributing content using mobile phones, PDAs and game consoles.
