Apprenticeships and Traineeships
Apprenticeship
An apprenticeship is a full-time employment based training program combining on-the-job and off-the-job training. An apprenticeship usually takes four years to complete. It provides the apprentice with an opportunity to learn all aspects of a trade and become a qualified tradesperson.
On successful completion of the apprenticeship the apprentice gains a nationally recognised qualification and a trade certificate.
Traineeship
A traineeship is an employment based program which involves practical on-the-job training. Traineeships may be full-time or part-time. A full-time traineeship is usually 12 months.
On successful completion of a traineeship the trainee gains a nationally recognised qualification.
School-based traineeships are available in many occupations for students in year 11 and 12. Students undertaking school-based traineeships will work towards a secondary graduation as well as a nationally recognised qualification.
