Carbon Management

The carbon economy is coming and businesses in the future will need to measure, manage and minimise their carbon emissions. This is being demanded by government legislation, tender requirements, suppliers and consumers who want a greener economy.

By managing and minimising your energy use and carbon emissions, you will reduce your energy costs and be able to promote and market your business as socially responsible and environmentally friendly. This is becoming increasingly important to big business, suppliers, clients and government alike and may give you the edge you need in a competitive business environment.

The Institute provides two options for training in Carbon Management

Download the Carbon Management Flyer for details on these two options.

Here’s what some of our students said about the Diploma of Carbon Management:

"Climate change is already impacting on agriculture ... and this program will demonstrate ways to measure carbon emissions, and then reduce emissions followed by appropriate and legitimate carbon offsets. The Diploma provides a sound basis for understanding these imposts.

I can readily provide my full support to this valuable training program that is timely and delivered in an industry-appropriate manner and recommend this program to industry."

Philip Gardiner MLC, Member for the Agricultural Region

"Happy to speak in WA’s first TAFE Diploma of Carbon Management, at Joondalup campus. (Well done organiser Eric Findlay.)"

Professor Lyn Beazley AO FTSE , Chief Scientist of WA

"The Diploma of Carbon Management run at West Coast Institute of Training is fantastic and a very relevant course, based on what the future holds for how we manage our emissions on a national and international level. The course has given me great direction for my career and inspired me to explore new options. The length, flexibility and the mode of the course meant additional commitments could still be maintained. It was most valuable to meet a range of people from different backgrounds and was humbling to be around like-minded people."

Kate Forest, Syrinx Environmental PL

“I personally found the Diploma of Carbon Management extremely interesting and rewarding. As part of my role as a minesit-based Environmental Officer, the course has significantly improved my understanding of the fundamental components of the NGER legislation and how this relates to our business.”

Robert Mills, Senior Environmental Officer, Crosslands

Here’s what some of our students said about the two day workshop:

“I found the workshop very interesting and worthwhile as it gave me an insight to what we have to be prepared for in the future. Knowledge gleaned can now be passed on to our members.”

“An interesting and worthwhile course that I would recommend.”

Lisa Cooke, City of Perth

“West Coast Institute of Training has shown that it will take leadership in skills development for a carbon economy. Workshop participants are one step ahead of most, having benefitted from the partnership between Carbon Planet and West Coast Institute of Training”

Kevin Peachey, Electrical Utilities & Public Admin Training Council
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

“With a desire to change direction in my career and business towards environmental science, and specifically the carbon management area, I struggled to find a university based course anywhere that came near my specific field of interest. After commencing a masters in environmental science at university, the gap between broad theory and practical application became even more evident. I couldn't believe my good fortune when I came across the newly created and government approved carbon management courses offered by WCIT. The short two-day course I attended was the perfect precursor to further studies in the full Diploma of Carbon Management this institute has developed. I found the course provided me with a great grounding in legislative background, current policies, and key issues and processes involved with identifying and managing the carbon footprints of big and small business. For me, this was simply inspirational and I look forward to continuing my studies with an innovative group of talented lecturers at an institution that has demonstrated considerable forethought by positioning itself at the leading edge of training in carbon management. Well done WCIT.”
