Children's Services
Childcare is an expanding industry with a plethora of jobs available for those with a genuine interest in the care of young children up to the age of 12 years.
The industry is demanding higher qualifications and training from workers in this field to ensure a consistently high standard of care for children placed in services. Children are placed in childcare services for a number of reasons including: both parents working, respite, family court orders, parents undertaking study, parents working away or shift work and to encourage socialisation.
Whether you want to travel oversees as a nanny, work on cruise ships, hotels or work from home running a home day care, these nationally accredited qualifications offer you that flexibility and opportunity to do so.
Graduates are in high demand with opportunities to work in long day care, outside schools hours care and family day care, as well as in alternative services such as working with children with additional needs, as a support worker or carers in general.

Important information regarding diploma and advanced diploma course fees
The Australian Government recently committed $60.3 million to remove course fees for Diplomas and Advanced Diplomas in some child care courses under a new National Partnership Agreement with States and Territories.
The initiative is part of the Early Childhood Workforce Strategy and aims to develop a child care workforce with high level qualifications.
New or continuing students who enrol in a Diploma of Children’s Services or Advanced Diploma of Children’s Services at a TAFEWA College or at Curtin University VTEC from 1 January 2009 are exempt from paying a course fee.
The initiative applies to full-time or part-time enrolments, and may benefit people considering a career in child care, or existing child care workers looking to upgrade their qualifications.
A resource fee may still apply in order to cover the costs of materials and services as part of a unit. Contact West Coast on 9233 1831.
