Nursing

Nurses make a real difference to the comfort and care of patients every day. Nursing offers diversity, challenge and opportunities to work in interesting fields such as private or public hospitals, nursing homes, GP clinics, immunisation clinics, schools, cruise ships, prisons, community health clinics.

Whilst Enrolled Nurses work under the supervision of a Registered Nurse, their role is expanding to include new contexts and responsibilities. Enrolled Nurses are accountable for the care they give and duties may include: personal hygiene care for patients, monitoring a patient’s vital signs, complex wound dressings, administration of medications, admission and discharge of patients, assisting in theatre, special care and renal units, reporting, documentation and assisting the doctor in medical procedures.

Upon completion of the Diploma of Enrolled Nursing, graduates can apply to ECU to convert to a Registered Nurse qualification.
