Occupational Safety & Health

Occupational Safety & Health (OSH) is a key priority area in workplaces all over Australia – from office ergonomics to mine site safety and health regulations. Every employee, supervisor and manager must adhere to OSH standards as part of their work so understanding OSH practices and requirements will increase your employability and promotional opportunities.

The demand for safety officers is on the rise in most organisations and government is now recognising the value of dedicated safety staff in Australian workplaces. Workplaces are now demanding a Certificate IV in OSH as a minimum qualification for these roles.  In fact, those acting in OSH roles without formal qualifications have found studying the subject highly practical and are rewarded for their experience by Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) which means their on-the-job training helps them achieve their qualification faster.

While OSH theory remains the same, the content and scope may change depending on the work environment. OSH graduates can enjoy significant financial rewards in some workplaces; have a choice of 9 to 5 work or Fly-In Fly-Out (FIFO) opportunities; establish their own business; or combine the qualification with further studies in education and training.
