Police Preparation

When selecting a career in Policing, you are taking a step forward to meet the needs of the community for protection, education, and guidance.  It is more than just ‘locking up crims’ and can be a very interesting, varied and rewarding career for people with a community conscience.

In recent times, the Western Australia Police (WAPOL) has undergone significant change, and with the change has come greater opportunities, more varied and interesting roles, and exciting challenges.

WAPOL now provides a career that is likely to suit a broader range of people from the community, and in fact, they are seeking a very diverse mix of people when recruiting. The key is to be prepared for the rigorous recruiting process and this is where the Police Preparation course is invaluable.

It is significant that many people who inquire about a career in WAPOL find out that it is a vastly different career to what their original perceptions were.  The Police Preparation course helps potential applicants understand what they can expect if they are successful in gaining admission to the Academy and also what life is like working as a Police Officer.

• West Coast understands the rigorous recruitment process employed by the WA Police and is able to mentor participants through it, assisting in the development of Maths and English skills.
• An Industry partnership between West Coast and the WA Police Academy means that representatives from the Police Academy attend the course to give detailed information about the enrolment process, to display DVD’s of the types of activities you can expect to be involved in as a new recruit and to answer questions from participants.
• Teaching is delivered in a practical and integrated manner, where five accredited units from the Business Services Training packaged are delivered with a policing context in mind.  This enables the learner to practice skills that are directly applicable to what they can expect to use as a Police Officer.
