Qatar Petroleum

Company Profile
 
Qatar Petroleum is responsible for all phases of the oil and gas industry in the State of Qatar.  Principal activities cover exploration, drilling production, storage and transport and sale of crude oil, natural gas liquids, liquefied natural gas, gas-to-liquids, refined products, petrochemicals and fertilizers, helicopter and financing services.  The record growth rate of Qatar's economy is a direct result of the unprecedented level of expansion in the energy sector.

Training at West Coast Institute

Five employees of Qatar Petroleum completed the Advanced Diploma of Business Management in July 2009.  The course duration was 12 months.  The program had a strong emphasis on strategic risk management.

A group of six employees began their studies at West Coast Institute of Training in term 4, 2008 with an English language enhancement program, returning in February 2009 to undertake the Diploma of Security & Risk Management.  This group will complete their studies in December 2009.

A new group of seven employees commenced the Diploma of Security & Risk Management in July 2009 and is scheduled to complete in July 2010.


Qatargas

Company Profile

Qatargas was established in 1984 and pioneered the liquefied natural gas (LNG) industry in the State of Qatar.  Qatargas is one of the the world's largest exporters of LNG.

Training at West Coast Institute

Qatargas undertook a site visit to West Coast Institute of Training in late 2008 to review  our learning facilities and the general living environment of Joondalup.  The Qatargas representative was impressed with what he saw and the company sent a group of security operations employees to Australia to undertake English language training, and in one case, project management.  The group arrived in January 2009 and undertook a six month program.

There are two Qatargas employees undertaking the Certificate II of Spoken and Written English, which commenced in July 2009 and will be completed in December 2009.

Zhejiang Department of Public Security

Department Profile

The Department of Public Security of Zhejiang Province, a component department of Zhejiang Provincial Government, was established on August 21,1949. Its main duties are to prevent, stop and investigate criminal activities, maintain the public order, manage traffic, fire control, dangerous goods control, conduct household registrations, administration of nationality, and exit-entry affairs.

Training at West Coast Institute

West Coast Institute of Training conducted workshops for senior officers in incident command orientation and the development and implementation of crisis management processes.  The Incident Command System Orientation program was developed by the Justice Institute of British Columbia and delivered by West Coast Institute of Training under a Memorandum of Understanding.  The Zhejiang Department of Public Safety is located in China's Zhejiang Province.


Guangzhou City Polytechnic

Institute Profile

Guangzhou City Polytechnic is in the centre of Guangzhou Municipality at the foot of Baiyun Mountain in Guangdong Province, and was established to deal with the vocational needs of an ever-changing workforce and new economic development in the People’s Republic of China. Programs of study include hospitality and tourism management, auto technology, machinery and electricity skills training, art design and agriculture. The goals of the institution are vocational education, life-long learning and worker re-training.  

Training at West Coast Institute

In January and February this year, West Coast Institute of Training conducted a professional development program for hospitality and tourism lecturers from Guangzhou City Polytechnic.  Fifteen lecturers attended the three-week program, a combination of formal presentations, practical demonstrations, and industry site visits.  While this program was centred on the West Coast Academy of Hospitality and Tourism, staff from all parts of the Institute assisted in the program and made it a significant success.
